Conversing With the Earth II: Desertification

This is the second in the series with the theme of, "Conversing With the Earth," for the 20 Perspectives group.
The lush blues and greens of the first piece have given way to yellows and browns. Our abundance of food and water is being threatened by desertification - the process by which fertile land turns into desert as a result of drought, deforestation, or inappropriate farming.
As the fiery discourse continues, it is slightly more engaged than with the first piece and is much more animated. The lines of dialogue represent an interplay of opposing views, tangled narratives and urgent debates. Yet, the message is one of hope that change can be made.
Technique and Materials: Raw-edge appliqué, cotton fabric, organza, acrylic paint pen, 80/20 batting.

This brought back memories of a trip I took years ago to a region that was once lush but had clearly been struggling with water scarcity. We drove for hours, and the landscape gradually shifted from green hills to dusty plains dotted with brittle, skeletal trees.
